Overtime Goal Sinks IWU Men's Soccer Upset Bid

MARION, Ind. -- No. 21-ranked Judson (Ill.) University scored the only goal of the evening in overtime to survive an excellent played match by the Indiana Wesleyan University men's soccer team on Wednesday night at Wildcat Field.

A little over four minutes into overtime, Judson earned their second shot on goal of the evening when junior midfielder Tom Kruse took the shot from the top of the 18-yard box. The ball beat IWU junior goalkeeper Nick Platt to the left corner for the golden goal and the 1-0 overtime victory for Judson.

The opening 45 minutes of play featured a lot of the action being contested in the middle third of the field. Neither team garnered a lot of shots as Judson outshot Indiana Wesleyan 4-2. But both Indiana Wesleyan shots were on goal while Judson was unable to put one on net.

In the second half of action played remained very even. Indiana Wesleyan won the battle in shots with six in the half and two were on goal. Judson was able to unleash five shots, including their first and only shot on goal during regulation in the 77th minute.

Regulation ended with a scoreless match to force overtime where Judson tallied the game-winner in the 95th minute of play.

The Eagles completed the match with a slight 10-9 advantage in shots while the Wildcats led 4-2 in shots on goal.

Judson improves to 11-1-1 on the season while Indiana Wesleyan falls to 6-8-1.

Indiana Wesleyan will next play at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 16 at Grant County rival Taylor (Ind.) University in Upland, Indiana.
