Box Score MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University women's basketball turned 29 Golden Eagle turnovers into 37 points to cruise to a 66-50 victory over Cornerstone (Mich.) University on Saturday afternoon in the final game of the MCC/WHAC Challenge in Luckey Arena.
A day after the Wildcats forced 30 Madonna (Mich.) University turnovers, the IWU defense was once again the aggressor in forcing 29 Cornerstone miscues.
IWU junior forward Elaine Hessel scored at least 20 points for the fourth consecutive game as she totaled a game-high 21 points on 9-of-13 shooting. Hessel also contributed four assists and three steals. Junior guard Kayla Thompson was hot from outside the arc as she hit on 6-of-10 3-pointers en route to 18 points. Thompson also had four assists and three steals.
The Wildcats never struggled in building a 20-4 lead to open the game and a 34-20 lead at the break. IWU shot 51.9-percent (14 of 27) from the floor while the Golden Eagles struggled at 38.1-percent (8 of 21) in the first half.
For the contest, Indiana Wesleyan shot 51.0-percent (26 of 51) from the field and 41.7-percent (10 of 24) from beyond the arc.
Cornerstone was able to control the boards as they held a considerable 35-17 advantage in rebounds. CU also blocked three shots.
Indiana Wesleyan remains unbeaten on the season with a 6-0 record while Cornerstone falls to 1-5.
The Wildcats return to the court and will play their first Mid-Central College Conference game at Goshen (Ind.) College. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 24.
