MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University women's tennis is one win away from an automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament.
The top-seeded Wildcats earned a convincing 9-0 victory over No. 4-seed Bethel (Ind.) College on Thursday afternoon in the NAIA Region VIII semifinal. IWU will battle No. 2-seed Marian (Ind.) College in the NAIA Region VIII final on Friday, April 25 for a right to play in the national tournament. Marian defeated No. 3-seed Aquinas (Mich.) College 5-4 in the other semifinal.
Seniors Brittany Raymond and Kristi Haddad earned an 8-4 win in No. 1-doubles while the freshmen tandem of Eva Delk and Lisa Massey also won 8-4 in No. 2-doubles. Sophomore Courtney Kooyers and junior Laura Helm completed the doubles sweep in No. 3 action with an 8-6 win.
Senior Sarah Bauss earned a 6-7, 6-3, 10-6 win in No. 1-singles. The other five singles matches were won in straight sets.
Junior Julia Hedgebeth (6-1, 6-1) won No. 2-singles, Delk (6-1, 6-0) earned a win in No. 3-singles, Raymond (6-0, 6-1) captured No. 4-singles, Massey (6-0, 6-0) won No. 5-singles and Haddad (6-1, 6-1) completed the match sweep for Indiana Wesleyan.
Indiana Wesleyan is now 19-2 this year and 6-2 during the spring season.
The Wildcats host Marian at 1 p.m. on Friday with an automatic bid to the national tournament on the line.
