Box Score UPLAND, Ind. -- Despite two quick goals for the Indiana Wesleyan University men's soccer team on Saturday afternoon the Wildcats needed a second half goal to secure a 3-2 victory over host Taylor (Ind.) University in Mid-Central College Conference action.
Three different Wildcats found the back of the net as senior Joel Trainer assisted on all three IWU scores.
Sophomore David Trainer opened the scoring in the ninth minute and fellow sophomore Nick Fortini increased the lead to 2-0 in the 11th minute to put Indiana Wesleyan in control of the match.
But Taylor quickly responded two minutes later with a goal from Nate Kirsch in the 13th minute. Neither team scored again in the opening half as Indiana Wesleyan headed to intermission with a 2-1 advantage.
Taylor was awarded a penalty kick in the 56th minute. Nathan Toldt took the shot and knotted the score at 2-2 for the Trojans.
This time Indiana Wesleyan was able to answer quickly with a goal three minutes later. Senior Ben Chleboun netted his second goal in as many matches to retake the lead for Indiana Wesleyan. That goal ended up as the game-winner.
Each team had 15 shots on the afternoon. Indiana Wesleyan put eight on net while Taylor managed to put six on goal.
Junior Spenser Lang earned the win in net for the Wildcats. He made four saves in the contest.
Indiana Wesleyan ups their record to 9-7-0 this year and 5-1-0 in the Mid-Central College Conference. Taylor falls to 5-11-1 and 1-5-1 in MCC play.
Next up for Indiana Wesleyan is Goshen (Ind.) College at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 21, at Wildcat Field in the final regular season home match of the year.
