HUNTINGTON, Ind. -- For the 16th straight season the Indiana Wesleyan University women?s tennis team won the Mid-Central College Conference championship.
The Wildcats defeated host Huntington (Ind.) University 7-2 on Wednesday night to cap a perfect 8-0 conference record. Indiana Wesleyan is 12-0 overall.
Huntington won the No. 1-doubles match 8-6 over seniors Brittany Raymond and Kristi Haddad. The No. 2-doubles pair of freshmen Eva Delk and Lisa Massey won 8-3 and the No. 3 team of sophomore Laura Kooyers and junior Laura Helm earned IWU a point with an 8-2 victory.
Junior Julia Hedgebeth lost 6-3, 4-6, 1-6 in No. 1 play. Delk earned a 6-3, 6-1 decision in No. 2-singles while Raymond scored a point for IWU with a 6-4, 6-2 win. Massey edged out a 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 win in No. 4 action and Haddad won 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 5 position. Kooyers wrapped up the Wildcat win with a 6-1, 6-3 victory in No. 6-singles.
The Wildcats return to action at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 6, as IWU hosts Indiana Tech at the Sutter Tennis Center during Homecoming weekend.
