Following an impressive career with the Wildcats women's soccer team (2003-2007), Janelle (Demchak) Carmichael joins head coach Dr. John Bratcher as the first graduate assistant for the women's soccer program. In addition to assisting Bratcher this fall, she will be earning a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership from Indiana Wesleyan University.
Prior to taking on this role, Carmichael worked as the Sports Information Director at San Diego Christian College (El Cajon, Calif.) from 2009-2011, serving as the direct contact, statistician, and graphic designer for the Hawks eight athletic teams. San Diego Christian College is an NAIA Division 1 school in the Golden State Athletic Conference. She also served as the Hawks Assistant Women's Soccer Coach under Daniel Salas for the 2009 season before shifting her focus to accommodate the full-time SID role. Before her time at SDCC, she worked full-time in the graphic design field in Indianapolis, Indiana.
As a four-year starter for the women's soccer program, Carmichael helped the Wildcats win four Mid-Central College Conference championships, three MCC Postseason Tournament titles, and a NAIA National Tournament appearance in 2003 and 2005 where they made it to the Sweet 16. During her final season with the Wildcats, Carmichael helped IWU secure a third place finish at the NCCAA National Tournament in Kissimmee, Florida. Throughout her career, Carmichael received NAIA Honorable Mention All-American honors in 2005, was a three-time First-Team All MCC and Region 8 selection, NCCAA/MCC Player of the Week (2005), and was a two-time NAIA and NCCAA Scholar Athlete.
Off the field, Carmichael puts her Graphic Design and Photography degrees to use both professionally and as a hobby. She enjoys staying active, investing in others, and spending time with her brother and his wife, Mark and Kim, both former IWU soccer players, in the Chicago area.
Carmichael currently resides in Marion with her husband, Jerry, who is studying to complete a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Indiana Wesleyan University.
