Zach Tanner

    Assistant Coach

Coach Zach Tanner begins his first season with the Wildcats in 2015. Coach Tanner will work with the teams’ defense.

Coach Tanner spent the previous three seasons as an assistant coach at Owens Community College where he worked with infielders and the teams’ hitters.

Coach Tanner has also played two years of professional baseball, most recently with the Frontier Greys in the Frontier League. He also had a decorated high school and college career. Coach Tanner was a two-time All-State and a North-South all-star selection at Yorktown High School. He then went on to play two years at Lincoln Trail Junior College where he was second in the nation in batting average his sophomore year.

From there, Coach Tanner spent two years at Wright St. and in 2011 the Raiders won the Horizon League Tournament. Coach Tanner was named the MVP of the tournament and moved on to play in the College Station regional. While at the regional, Coach Tanner collected two hits off of current St. Louis Cardinal starting pitcher Michael Wacha.

“We are thrilled to add Coach Tanner on our staff,” says IWU head coach Chad Newhard. “He brings a diverse baseball experience to our team that will benefit everyone in our program. He has a great knowledge of the game and does a great job communicating that knowledge to the players.”
