MARION, Ind. - No. 15 Indiana Wesleyan Men's Soccer welcomed Grace College to IWU Soccer Field on Wednesday evening for its third Crossroads League match of the season. The Lancers had defeated the Wildcats' on this same field with a 1-0 win in last year's Crossroads League semifinal. This time the result went the other way: Mariano Chaves scored the only goal of the night and IWU won 1-0, its fourth straight victory.
Indiana Wesleyan controlled most of the first half, outshooting Grace 7-2 and earning three corner kicks from Guzman Trigo. Neither side found the target before the break, and the teams went into halftime level at 0-0. The deadlock broke in the 59th minute, when Chaves found the back of the net unassisted for his sixth goal of the season. Grace pushed for an equalizer over the final half hour, but Kadin Wolfe made all three of his saves in the second half, including stops in the 67th and 73rd minutes, to preserve the clean sheet. The Wildcats improve to 9-1-2 overall and 3-0-0 in Crossroads League play. IWU heads to Huntington on Saturday afternoon.
