MARION, Ind. - No. 4 Indiana Wesleyan Women's Soccer faced off with their second straight Top 25 opponent in No. 20 Taylor University on a bright and warm Saturday afternoon. It was a tight defensive battle all the way to the end with the only goals coming in the 87th and 89th minutes. IWU walks away still unbeaten and will face another tough test in No. 7 Grace College on Wednesday.
The Wildcats controlled the ball and put pressure on the Trojans throughout the first half. They recorded seven corner kicks in the first half alone compared to only one from TU. IWU fired off 5 shots with one coming from Alyssa Hamann that hit the crossbar and went straight down but did not cross the goal line before Taylor cleared it. Katelyn VanderArk had the best chance of the period, but the Trojan goalkeeper was able to make the save. The match remained scoreless despite continuous pressure by Indiana Wesleyan in the second half. The Trojans were able to break the drought first in the 87th minute on an offensive push that got deep into Wildcat territory. Two minutes later, Katelyn VanderArk was able to tie the match with a goal amidst a crowd inside the box off a corner kick.
