MARION, Ind. - No. 3 Indiana Wesleyan Women's Soccer welcomed Mount Vernon Nazarene on Wednesday for its first of three home games. IWU held its annual Breast Cancer Awareness Game by partnering with Pink Ribbon Good and wearing pink jerseys in honor of those who are fighting and have fought breast cancer. The Wildcats took down the Cougars in commanding fashion, 5-0. Avery Williams tallied two of the five goals and each of the five goals was assisted. IWU will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday with a match against Saint Francis.
Carlie Grosser scored the first goal of the match in the 30th minute. Avery Sluss recorded her first career assist on the goal after punting the ball deep down field followed by a touch pass from Alyssa Hamann to Grosser. In the 39th minute, Sydney Couch blocked a ball that would have scored to keep it 1-0 in favor of IWU. Hamann picked up a goal of her own near the end of the half on a corner kick from fellow senior, Anna Pettitt. After halftime, the Wildcats extended the lead even further with a Avery Williams goal assisted by Katelyn VanderArk. Ten minutes later, Sydney Couch recorded her 5th goal of the season on another Anna Pettitt corner kick. To cap it off, Williams scored her second goal of the match in the 85th minute.

WHITAKER PERSPECTIVE
- "I think we played really well today. We've been working a lot on our off ball movement and it was really evident tonight in the goals we scored," said midfielder Tylar Whitaker. "Coach Shay also emphasized playing for a bigger cause tonight, and I think we were able to carry that message onto the field with this big win. It was super special for me to see the money raised for this cause because my mom had breast cancer. I've seen first hand how that can affect families and it was awesome to use our game to help raise awareness for breast cancer."
