Women's Volleyball Drops 4-Set Match to Cross Town Rival No. 12 Taylor

UPLAND, Ind. – Indiana Wesleyan Women's Volleyball dropped a hard-fought Crossroads League battle at No. 12 Taylor University on Saturday, falling in four sets despite a dominant third-set showing that kept the match alive. The loss evens the season series between the two teams at 1-1, with IWU having taken the first meeting back on Sept. 2.

SET 1 (L, 19-25)

  • Taylor opened with a 3-0 run and then stretched that into a 1-7 cushion with a 4-0 burst.
  • IWU answered with a 3-0 run of its own to trim it to 10-14, then ripped off five straight points (12-16 to 17-16) to grab its first lead of the set.
  • Taylor closed the set on a six-point run, scoring the final six points to take it, 25-19.
 

SET 2 (L, 16-25)

  • The teams traded points through the middle of the set before Taylor broke away with a three-point run to go up 5-10.
  • Th Wildcats brought the set within 4 (14-18) with a kill from Marin Sanchez.
  • The Trojans delivered the finishing blow with a five-point run late (15-20 to 15-24) to close out the set, 25-16.
 

SET 3 (W, 25-17)

  • IWU came out firing with their backs against the wall, opening the set with a 7-0 run to seize immediate control.
  • The Wildcats extended the cushion with another 3-0 run to lead 14-7.
  • Using the early momentum, the Wildcats traded points until eventually closing the set out 25-17 thanks to an Aubree Deshetsky service ace.
 

SET 4 (L, 21-25)

  • Taylor built an early cushion with a 3-0 run to lead 3-8.
  • IWU clawed back with a 4-0 run of its own to trim it to 8-9. On the run, Aubree Deshetsky tallied two kills and Breanna Tubergen notched a kill of her own.
  • The two sides battled to an 18-18 tie after another IWU 4-0 spurt, but Taylor pulled away late with a 4-0 run (20-21 to 20-24) to close out the match, 25-21.
