OMAHA, NEB. - No. 1 Indiana Wesleyan volleyball earned a split on the opening day of the CSM Labor Day Classic. The Wildcats defeated Hastings College in four sets to open the day before falling to No. 2 Bellevue 3-0 in their evening match up.

MATCH ONE VITALS

• Neither team found much separation in set one with IWU holding the slight edge at 20-19 late into the set. After grabbing a 23-21 lead, kills from Marin Sanchez and Marissa Mullins gave Indiana Wesleyan a first set victory.
• The Wildcats made the first major run of the match in set two, going on a 6-2 run midway through the set to extend their 1 point lead to 5 at 18-13. A trio of errors from Hastings and a Cadee Notter service ace gave IWU a 2-0 advantage.
• The Broncos were dominant in the third set, avoiding a sweep by taking the set 25-18.
• After the red and gray jumped out to a big lead, HC looked poised to force a decisive 5th set, holding a late 23-22 lead. The Wilcats scored 3 straight to steal the set and finish off a 3-1 win.

• Alex Lloyd led IWU with a career high 13 kills.
• Marissa Mullins totaled 5 blocks.
• Abbigail Porter posted 45 assists.
• Cadee Notter recorded 19 digs.

• Bellevue took control early, jumping out to a 16-8 lead in set one. IWU would pull within 3 at 18-15, but a late Bruins run gave BU a 25-19 win.
• The teams battled late into set two with the Wildcats knotting things up at 17. The Bruins went on an 8-1 run the rest of the way to take the second set.
• Set three followed the same script with Indiana Wesleyan tying the set at 18, but another run from Bellevue finished off the Bruins sweep with a 25-20 victory.

• Marin Sanchez led the Wildcats with 11 kills.
• Jessica Ickes led the team with 3 blocks.
• Abbigail Porter posted 30 assists.
• Cadee Notter tallied 17 digs.

LOOKING AHEAD

• Indiana Wesleyan face No. 7 Northwestern and No. 16 Viterbo on day two of the CSM Labor Day Classic in Omaha, Nebraska.
