MARION, Ind. – No. 12 Indiana Wesleyan Softball faced No. 25 Rio Grande (Ohio) in the Opening Round of the NAIA Softball Tournament. It was battle of two of the top pitchers in the country with Jordyn Ball of Indiana Wesleyan facing Madi Ogden of Rio Grande. The Red Storm would come out victorious, 4-2.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

 


 

• Two of the top pitchers in the NAIA faced off against each other for IWU and Rio Grande.
• The game started scoreless for the first 3 innings. The Wildcats had the bases loaded on offense 3 times in those first 3 innings but were unable to come away with a score.
• Rio Grande scored first in the top of the 4th inning, putting up 3 runs.
• In usual IWU fashion, the Wildcats scored right after. Whitney Waddell hit a double into the outfield that would score Malayni Clemens. After the throw from the outfield, Waddell advanced to third and an overthrown ball by the catcher allowed her to score as well.
• Both Ball and Ogden pitched very well the rest of the game but a SAC fly from Rio Grande scored one more in the top of the 7th and Indiana Wesleyan was unable to mount a comeback.

 

NEXT TIME OUT

 

 

• The Wildcats continue to play in the double elimination tournament as they take on the No. 4 seed in the Marion bracket, Coastal Georgia, tomorrow at 11:00 AM.
