WINONA LAKE, IND. - The Indiana Wesleyan baseball team earned a pair of double digit victories on Thursday, defeating Grace College 12-2 in game one and 13-2 in game two. Nick Wiley led the Wildcats in game one with three hits including two home runs and five RBIs. Ty Mathews took the lead in game two with three hits of his own, a homer, and four RBIs. Noah Wathen and Brock Buckley both threw complete games allowing two earned runs.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS

 

 

• The Lancers jumped in front in the bottom of the 1st, but Darien Pugh knotted things up in the 2nd with a solo homer to right field.
• Pugh again put IWU on the board in the 3rd, with a RBI single that scored Kyle Wu and Caleb Engelsman. Andrew Sinish drove Pugh across and Kevin Corcoran scored Sinish before the first Nick Wiley home run to put Indiana Wesleyan up 7-1.
• Wiley hit his next bomb to start in the 5th, scoring Sinish and Corcoran.
• A Pugh Sac Fly scored Ty Mathews to put IWU up 12-1 in the 6th.
• Grace hit a solo home run in the 6th to wrap up the scoring in game one.
• Nick Wiley went 3-4 with 5 RBIs and hit 2 home runs. Darien Pugh was 2-3 with 4 RBIs, and a solo home run.
• Noah Wathen went the full 7 innings with 4 strikeouts and allowed just 2 runs on 5 hits.

 

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS

 

 

• Caleb Engelsman put the Wildcats on top in the 3rd inning with an RBI single, scoring Ty Mathews. Andrew SInish drove Engelsman and Darien Pugh across, Kevin Corcoran sent Sinish around, and Grant Payson scored Corcoran to cap off a 5 run 3rd inning.
• Ty Mathews brought Colin Yoder home with a single and later scored on an error in the 4th to put IWU up 7-0.
• Mathews scored Payson and Kyle Wu in the 5th and Engelsman scored Vojtkofsky pushing the Wildcat lead to 10. Greg Vineyard got on base on an error from the Lancers which also scored Mathews and Engelsman to wrap up the 5th inning.
• A Mathews solo shot in the 7th put Indiana Wesleyan on top 13-0 before Grace scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning.
• Ty Mathews went 3-4 with 4 RBIs and a home run.
• Brock Buckley threw a complete game, allowing 2 runs on 2 hits with 4 strikeouts.

• IWU returns to Grace tomorrow with a 1:00 PM first pitch.
