BASEBALL PICKS UP PAIR OF WINS OVER BETHEL

MARION, IND. - The Indiana Wesleyan baseball team picked up a pair of wins on Friday, sweeping their doubleheader with Bethel. After a slow start offensively in game one the Wildcats exploded for 10 runs in the last 4 innings for an 11-3 victory. In the nightcap Brock Buckley put together a strong outing on the mound with a complete game victory where he recorded a career high 10 strikeouts.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
 

 
  • Ty Mathews got the scoring started in the second, crossing home on a Pilot error.
  • Bethel tied the game in the third on a walk with bases loaded.
  • Darien Pugh brought Jake Thompson home on an RBI single and Kyle Wu brought Pugh home in the 5th to build a 2 run lead.
  • The Wildcats ballooned their lead in the next two innings by plating 4 runs.
  • The Pilots got a run back in the 8th to cut the lead to 8-3, but a Nick WIley two run homer and and Andrew Sinish RBI double in the bottom of the inning secured an 11-3 win.
  • Five Wildcats recorded 2+ hits in the game, led by Jake Thompson who went 3-3 with 1 run and 1 RBI.
  • Charlie Baker earned his first career win, pitching 3.1 innings with 2 strikeouts and allowed just 1 run.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
 

 
  • Bethel notched runs in the 1st and 2nd innings to take a 2-0 lead.
  • IWU responded and tied the game in the bottom of the 2nd behind a run by Darein Ough and an Andrew Sinish SAC fly that scored Kevin Corcoran.
  • Colin Yoder scored in the 4th on an error and Ty Mathews brought Caleb Englesman across on an RBI single later in the inning.
  • Trevor Vojtkofsky added an insurance run in the 6th with a solo home run.
  • Seven Wildcats earned a hit in the contest and Kyle Wu drew 2 walks to lead the offense.
  • Brock Buckley had a dominant performance on the mound. He worked a complete game with 10 strikeouts and allowed just 2 walks, 2 runs, and 6 hits. He picked up his third win of the season with the effort.
