Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MARION, Ind. – No. 15 Indiana Wesleyan Softball took on No. 11 Marian University at home this evening. The Knights took game 1, 5-1. The Wildcats came back and won in 6 innings, 16-8 in game 2.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS

 

 

• It wa a pitching battle early on as neither team could earn a run in the first 2 innings.
• IWU broke the seal in the bottom of the 3rd when Whitney Waddell singled and brought home Arie Hackett. This would be IWU's only run of the game.
• Marian scored 3 in the 5th inning and 2 in the 6th inning to come away with the 5-1 win.

 

 

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS

 

 

• The Wildcats did not allow the Knights to get comfortable in game 2.
• After a scoreless 1st inning, IWU put 7 runs on the board in the bottom of the 2nd. Courtney Thomas and Sadie Harding got it started with two singles. Ella Phillips would then hit a SAC fly to score Thomas. Waddell brought Harding home later on with a single. 4 straight batters earned an RBI for IWU starting with Waddell's single, Morgan Yeater scored 2 with a double, then Abby Harvey brought Yeater home, and Brylee Bilger hit another HR to add 2 more to the board. 
• Both teams scored a run in the 3rd inning and it was a slug fest until the end of the game. Marian scored two more in the 4th to make their total 3 runs.
• Some nifty baserunning scored another run for the Wildcats in the 4th and they were up 9-3 going into the 5th.
• The 5th inning saw 5 runs for the Knights as they tried to battle back. However, IWU threw a haymaker of their own in the bottom of the 5th. Waddell walked with the bases loaded to score the first run of the inning. Emma Wiberg then stole home to score the second. Yeater singled to score another one and then Harvey walked to load the bases yet again. A wild pitch scored Waddell and a fielders choice from Thomas scored Yeater. The sixth and final run of the inning for Indiana Wesleyan came Ella Phillips earned another walk with the bases loaded.
• Isabelle Beidelschies shut out the Marian in the 6th and IWU put up one more run to win by run rule in 6 innings, 16-8.
