Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MOUNT VERNON, Ohio – No. 15 Indiana Wesleyan Softball traveled to Mount Vernon Nazarene to take on the Cougars in a doubleheader. Game 1 saw the Wildcats come away with a close 5-4 win. IWU ran away with Game 2 and win in 5 innings, 10-1.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS

 

 

• IWU started the top of the 1st inning with 2 runs. 3 straight errors by MVNU to start the game allowed for a bases loaded situation. Courtney Thomas came through with a single that scored Whitney Waddell and Morgan Yeater.
• The Cougars would answer with 4 runs of their own to take the lead in the bottom of the 1st.
• Both sides would then be held scoreless for the 2nd through the 4th innings.
• In the top of the 5th the Wildcats came alive. Yeater earned an RBI on a single that scored Waddell and then Abby Harvey brought home Yeater with a triple. After a Brylee Bilger walk, Emma Wiberg came in to pinch run and caused a throw down to 2nd that allowed Harvey to steal home and give IWU the 5-4 lead.
• Jordyn Ball shut down MNVU, holding them scoreless in 6 straight innings to give game 1 to Indiana Wesleyan. 

 

 

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS

 

 

• The Wildcats mimicked their game 1 start with 2 runs early. The first came when Courtney Thomas walked with the bases loaded to score Morgan Yeater. The second run came when Sadie Harding hit a SAC fly to score Abby Harvey.
• Isabelle Beidelschies came out dealing to start game 2. The pitcher did not allow a run for her first 3 innings of work.
• The 2nd inning saw more offense for IWU. Harvey hit her first of three singles for the game which brought home two runners. Yeater scored right after from an errant throw by the catcher trying to catch Harvey stealing.
• After a scoreless 3rd inning on both sides, the Red and Grey put a couple more runs on the board in the top of the 4th. Harvey smacked her second single into the outfield that scored Sara Ruble and Whitney Waddell and then Thomas earned another RBI with a single of her own. Harvey would come around to score on an error to make the score 9-0.
• The Cougars scored 1 in the bottom of the 4th to shorten the lead to 8.
• IWU was not done though. Harvey continued her great game with another single and another RBI to extend the lead back to 9. The senior had a perfect OBP in game 2 with 3 hits and 1 walk.
• Beidelschies shut down MVNU in the 5th and the Wildcats walked away with two wins on the day.

 

HARVEY PERSPECTIVE

 

 

• "I'm super proud of the way we were able to string things together and fully trust each other through failure," said Senior Abby Harvey. "Every time we are in the field or up to bat, we all have full confidence in each other to succeed. I truly think the way we are able to pray for each other and pray through anxious moments in games is how we are able to play free and with so much joy!"
