NO. 15 SOFTBALL COLLECTS TWO HOME WINS AGAINST GRACE COLLEGE

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MARION, Ind. – No. 15 Indiana Wesleyan Softball completed their first doubleheader of the year at Sue Bowman Field tonight against Grace College. IWU came away with a 10-5 win in game one and beat the Lancers 12-4 in the second game.

 GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
 
 

 
  • Jordyn Ball pitched a great game from the circle, not allowing a run for her first four innings of work.
  • IWU started game one with a 7 run first inning. Brylee Bilger batted home Morgan Yeater to get things going. A couple batters later, Ella Phillips doubled to clear a full base path to extend the lead. Maddie Martin also doubled to score Arie Hackett who had come in to pinch run for Phillips and Leah May blasted her second HR in two days to make the score 7-0.
  • The Wildcats scored two more in the 4th inning by way of an Abby Harvey double that scored Yeater and a Courtney Thomas single that scored Harvey.
  • Grace scored their first 3 runs in the 5th to make the score 3-9. Indiana Wesleyan scored one of their own in the bottom of the 5th to get it back to 10-3.
  • The Lancers scored two more in the top of the 6th but could not make a comeback in the 7th.

 GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
 

 
  • Malayni Clemens started the game as the pitcher for IWU and got the first three batters out in quick succession. 
  • The Wildcat offense was firing on all cylinders as they scored in all five innings of play. The first inning saw Whitney Waddell score on a wild pitch. After Grace scored 3 in the top half of the 2nd, Maddie Martin batted in Courtney Thomas and Waddell batted in Clemens.
  • Indiana Wesleyan scored 6 runs in the bottom of the 3rd as Brylee Bilger, Martin, Clemens, and Sadie Harding all earned RBIs. 
  • The bottom of the 4th inning saw Martin bat in Thomas yet again. 
  • The Lancers scored 1 in the top of the 5th but IWU earned the win by getting enough runs to lead by 8 at the end of the 5th. Ella Phillips walked with the bases loaded which scored one and Clemens finished her day by singling with the bases loaded again to get the win by run rule.
