NO. 18 SOFTBALL SWEEPS SPRING ARBOR TO START LEAGUE PLAY

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The No. 18 Indiana Wesleyan softball team played a doubleheader against Spring Arbor on the road. The Wildcats won game 1 by a score of 7-0. Jordyn Ball dominated in the circle with 7 strikeouts and had a no hitter going through 5 2/3rd innings. The second game saw IWU win 14-2 in 5 innings.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
 
 

 
  • The Wildcats started the game with a 1-0 lead after the 1st inning as Brylee Bilger scored Abby Harvey with a double to left field.
  • No runs were scored in the 2nd for either team. Jordyn Ball pitched a 1-2-3 inning with two strikeouts and that would not be her last time.
  • Indiana Wesleyan would score again in the 4th when Harvey crossed home plate again as Sadie Harding batted her in. Ball pitched two more 3 batter innings with two outs coming by strikeout in the bottom of the 4th and again in the 5th.
  • IWU scored one run in the 5th by way of Morgan Yeater batting in Arie Hackett. The game was broken open in the 6th as the Wildcats scored four more runs. Harding singled to load the bases and Maddie Martin hit a single through the left side to score one and keep the bases loaded. Whitney Waddell popped the ball over the left fielder's head to clear the bases and make the score 7-0. Ball shut out the Cougars again in the 6th and Malayni Clemens came in and pitched her own 3 batter inning to close out the win in the 7th.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
 

 
  • IWU kept it rolling in the 2nd game. 
  • The Cougars would score in the 1st inning with 2 runs but the Wildcats would respond in the top of the 2nd. Waddell batted in Bilger to cut the lead to 2-1.
  • Isabelle Beidelschies shut down SAU in the 2nd and 3rd innings and the IWU bats came alive in the 4th to back her up. The first three batters got on base to load the bases for Maddie Martin. She came through for her second bases loaded single of the day to score 2 runs to take the lead. Sara Ruble would SAC fly to score Ella Phillips and advance Arie Hackett, who came in to pinch run for Martin, to third. Whitney Waddell batted in Hackett to give Indiana Wesleyan a 5-2 lead.
  • Malayni Clemens would come in to pitch in the 4th and 5th and did not allow a hit. The offense exploded in the 5th inning as Martin secured two more RBIs, Waddell batted in another runner, Morgan Yeater scored a runner with a single, Brylee Bilger continued her fantastic day with a double that cleared a loaded base paths, and Samantha Durston batted in two more runners a pinch hitter. All in all, the Wildcats scored 9 runs in the 5th inning and won 14-2 in 5 innings.

  • "I'm so proud of our girls! They learned a lot in Florida and applied it to when it mattered most…conference," said Head Coach Steve Babinski. "They played for God and for others, they put together two clean games, and beat a really good Spring Arbor team. The potential for this group is limitless!
