MARION, Ind. - This week was a big one for the Wildcats Esports team. With Spring Break only a week away, the Wildcats had 5 total games this week, including 4 from Rocket League.
Before Rocket League's marathon week, Valorant won a quiet 2-0 over Union College on Monday. While Union did well on their map pick, Lotus, in map 1, the Wildcats won 8 straight rounds and blanked Union in the second half to take the 13-7 win. On the Wildcats' map pick, Fracture, they absolutely dominated, taking a 13-3 map win and 2-0 match win.
It was all Rocket League the rest of the week, starting with a GLEC match against Cleveland state. After a game winning goal from
Jeb Byrd, Drybbles, in overtime of Game 2 tied the series, it was all Cleveland State, as they took the series 1-4.
Then, the Wildcats took on Concordia St. Paul in a rematch of the Fall NECC Conference Quarterfinals. While the Wildcats were motivated and ready to go, they're mentality didn't pan out on the field, as CSP would win 3-0.
Finally, the Wildcats had a GLEC double header against powerhouse Shawnee State and Muskingum. The Shawnee State series was incredibly exciting, with the Wildcats falling down 0-2 before winning three straight games to take the 3-2 series lead. However, some really strong defense stopped the Wildcat momentum in it's tracks. Shawnee St. forced a 0-0 overtime in game six, capping it off with a goal in overtime. Then, the Wildcats ran out of time in Game 7 as Shawnee State finished the series off with a 2-1 final game score and a 4-3 series win. This series was the first time Shawnee State had dropped a game all season; the Wildcats managed to get three games off of the Bears.
In the final game of the week, the Wildcats were supposed to take on Muskingum at 1:30 on Saturday. However, due to a scheduling error, the Muskies were forced to forfeit the game, so the Wildcats received the win.
Next week will get a bit slower for the Wildcats, but there will still be some great action before Spring Break! We'll hope to catch you on twitch.tv/IWU_Esports!
