Women's Basketball Struggles from the Field in Loss to St. Thomas

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Indiana Wesleyan Women's basketball fell to St. Thomas, 67-53, at the Fernandez Family Center on Tuesday. The Wildcats struggled to get their offense going, shooting just 29% from the field and 20% from behind the arc. Only one Wildcat managed to reach double figures in the loss while three Bobcats had 10+ points.

FIRST QUARTER

  • St. Thomas began the game with a strong start, scoring the first layup by Maddie Scharrenberg at 9:49.
  • The Wildcats struggled with turnovers, committing four in the quarter, which STU capitalized on with seven points off turnovers.
  • The Bobcats extended their lead with a 3-pointer by Joey Delancy at 3:44, aided by Samantha Vales' assist.
  • STU held a commanding 19–6 advantage at the end of the first quarter.

SECOND QUARTER

  • IWU began with defensive intensity, highlighted by Addi Hovey's block at 9:11, maintaining their presence on the boards.
  • STU held a 16-point lead at 6:53, with Samantha Vales contributing key layups with assists from Madison Lippy.
  • The red and grey responded with a critical 3-pointer by Myla Browning at 4:20, narrowing the gap and shifting momentum.
  • Ayla Krygier's 3-pointer at 0:07 gave Indiana Wesleyan a one-point lead going into halftime, 31–30.
THIRD QUARTER
  • St. Thomas opened with a layup by Isabella Rivera at 9:00, taking a 32–31 lead.
  • A fast break layup by Ja'Nya Ferguson at 7:58 extended STU's lead to 34–31.  
  • Katrina Litte's three-pointer at 6:30 pushed the lead to 37–33.
  • The Bobcats closed the quarter strong, highlighted by a jumper from Joey Delancy at 0:27, giving them a 46–40 lead entering the fourth.

FOURTH QUARTER

  • Ellie Kelleher scored a layup at 7:35 to keep the visitors within reach at 51–47.  
  • STU extended their lead with a three-pointer by Samantha Vales at 5:23, pushing the score to 59–49.  
  • The Bobcats capitalized on free throws, with Katrina Litte converting two at 0:24, increasing their lead to 67–53. 
  • St. Thomas outscored the visitors 21–13 in the final quarter, securing a 67–53 victory.
