MARION, Ind. – Indiana Wesleyan Athletics is excited to announce the addition of Men's Volleyball as the university's 24th varsity sport. IWU will offer athletic scholarships and compete at the highest level within the NAIA, with recruiting set to begin immediately.
"Men's Volleyball is coming to IWU and Luckey Arena are exciting things together in one sentence," said Brian Jaworski, Vice President of Student Development and Athletics. "Discipling students to pursue a deeper relationship with Jesus and equipping them to also pursue athletic excellence has been a long-standing mission of Indiana Wesleyan University through the Athletic Department, and I look forward to seeing this commitment demonstrated in the new Men's Volleyball program."
The Wildcat men's volleyball games will be hosted in Luckey Arena in the Recreation and Wellness Center. This is also the second new sport added to the department this week after Women's Flag Football was announced on Tuesday.
"Men's volleyball is the perfect next sport for Indiana Wesleyan University as we both seek excellence athletically and influence others for Christ," said
Deane Webb, Director of Athletics. "It has exploded at the high school and collegiate levels in recent years. The incredible success of our women's volleyball program as back-to-back national champions put IWU on the volleyball map, and I believe that adding men's volleyball strengthens that visibility even further.
Men's Volleyball is entering its eighth season of NAIA championship competition. At the high school level, participation is up 76% nationally over the last 10 years, with the next highest boys sport only increasing 16%. Within the last year, the growth has continued with a 12.57% participation rise for boy's volleyball and just a 4.63% increase for the next highest boys sport.
