NO. 1 VOLLEYBALL SPLITS PAIR OF TOP 10 MATCHUPS

MARION, IND. - No. 1 Indiana Wesleyan volleyball split a pair of Top 10 matchups on Saturday, dropping a 5 set heart breaker to No. 4 Concordia (Nebraska), and taking down No. 7 in 4 sets to end the Columbia College Hampton Inn Classic.

MATCH ONE VITALS


 

  • In set one the teams found themselves tied at 9 before IWU used a 7-2 run to take control. The Wildcat's held on for a 25-20 win.
  • CUNE dominated early in set two, grabbing a 17-8 lead before  taking the set 25-18.
  • Indiana Wesleyan rebounded in the third set taking down the Bulldogs 25-19.
  • After falling behind early in set four, the Wildcats battled back to pull within two points at 18-16. However, Concordia didn't let IWU draw even and survived the comeback to tie the match at 2-2.
  • The Bulldogs struck first in set five, forcing an IWU timeout at 6-2. The Wildcats couldn't turn things around and dropped the set 15-10.
  • Eva Joldersma posted a season high 23 kills. Marissa Mullins (11), Martina Demarchi (10), and Dayessi Luis (10) each had double digits kills.
  • Abbigail Porter tallied 51 assists.
  • Mullins led the team with 5 blocks.
  • Cadee Notter led the way with 18 digs. Porter and Joldersma had 17 and 15 respectively.

MATCH TWO VITALS

 

  • Indiana Wesleyan struggled early in their second match of the day, giving up a 6-0 run early in the first set. The team couldn't mount a comeback and fell 25-18.
  • Halfway through the second set the Wildcats found themselves trailing by as much as 4 points, but an 8-1 run pushed the Wildcats ahead. They held on for a 25-22 win to knot the match up a 1-1.
  • IWU finally found their groove in set three, jumping to a 19-13 lead, before CC pulled within three at 22-19. The red and gray pulled out the set with a 25-20 victory,
  • Following a Wildcat timeout, Indiana Wesleyan used a 7-1 run to take control of the fourth set. A 5-0 run led by Martina Demarchi and Marissa Mullins wrapped up the match with a 25-16 win.
  • Eva Joldersma posted 18 kills. Mullins ass 12.
  • Julia Price recorded a season high 5 blocks. Demarchi and Mullins each had 3.
  • Abbigail Porter totaled 44 assists.
  • Cadee Notter led the team with 17 digs. Dayessi Luis and Joldersma tallied 12 each.

  • The Wildcats head to Michigan for the Siena Heights Labor Day Invitational.
  • IWU will face Aquinas on August 30th at 6:00 PM.
  • The team will face Siena Heights (10:00 AM) and Trinity Christian (12:00 PM) on August 31st.
