UPLAND, Ind. – The Indiana Wesleyan baseball team lost a 6-1 contest to No. 18 Taylor University Saturday morning in an elimination game between the top two seeds of the Crossroads League Tournament.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS

 

 

• IWU trailed 2-0 entering the fourth inning, but the Wildcats sliced the deficit to just one. Luke Roman beat out a single to the shortstop and moved to second on a base hit from Nick Wiley. Quinn Willard singled in Roman, making it 2-1. A fielder's choice and a groundout ended the threat.
• Taylor managed to score a run in the bottom of the fourth for a 3-1 edge.  
• IWU had a chance to cut into the deficit in the sixth. Roman walked and Willard singled up the middle. Jay Tomes was hit by a pitch to load the bases with two out, but a strikeout concluded the frame. 
• The Wildcats left a runner on base in the seventh and the top seed plated three runs in the bottom of the stanza for a five-run margin. 
• For the game, MJ Stavola led the way with a three-hit performance. Willard rattled off two hits and drove in one. Roman and Wiley tallied base hits and Roman scored in the contest.  
• On the mound, Grayson Knight went six innings and gave up five runs on five hits. He had two strikeouts. Caleb Olsen worked two-thirds of an inning before Gabe Stout tossed the final 1.1 innings with a strikeout.

• The Wildcats will hope to earn an At-Large bid to the NAIA National Tournament next week.
