WILEY'S TWO RUN HOME RUN LIFTS WILDCATS OVER MVNU

UPLAND, Ind. – The Indiana Wesleyan baseball team scored two runs in the sixth inning to knot the score before posting the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth frame in the 5-4 victory over Mount Vernon Nazarene in the Crossroads League Tournament Thursday afternoon.

 GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
 

 
  • IWU trailed 1-0 entering the bottom of the second, but the designated home team quickly got on the board. Nick Wiley drew a one-out walk and moved to third on a base hit by Quinn Willard. Wiley scored when Trevor Vojtkofsky reached on an error.  
  • The Wildcats took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third. MJ Stavola singled to left field and moved to second on a walk to Greg Vineyard. A fielder's choice put runners at first and second and Engelsman quickly ripped a pitch to left field for an RBI single, plating Vineyard. 
  • IWU fell behind 4-2, but the No. 2 seed tied the game in the bottom of the sixth. After Engelsman led off the stanza with a single to center field, Wiley belted a home run to left field, quickly making it 4-4.   
  • The Wildcats took the lead in the bottom of the eighth. Engelsman started the inning with a walk and moved to third on a Wiley base hit to right center field. With one down, Vojtkofsky ripped an offering to the center fielder. Engelsman raced home for the one-run edge on the sacrifice fly. 
  • For the game, Engelsman and Wiley had two hits apiece. Wiley drove in two and both student-athletes scored twice. Engelsman and Vojtkofsky had one RBI apiece.  
  • On the mound, Brock Buckley worked six innings and had four strikeouts. Caleb Olsen tallied four strikeouts in two shutout innings. Cam LaFuze posted a pair of strikeouts in the shutout inning, securing the save.
