NO. 16 SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH SAINT FRANCIS IN DEFENSIVE SHOWDOWN

MARION, Ind. – The No. 16 Indiana Wesleyan softball team split a doubleheader with the University of Saint Francis Tuesday afternoon. The Wildcats registered a 1-0 victory in the opener before falling 6-3 in the nightcap. IWU holds the top spot in the Crossroads League standings with a 20-4 record and three game lead over Marian and Spring Arbor.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
 
 

 
  • IWU jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Brylee Bilger launched a solo round-tripper.  
  • The one run was more than enough for the outstanding defense of the Wildcats.
  • IWU registered eight fly ball outs and seven ground ball outs.
  • IWU only registered four hits in the game, including two from Becca Wyatt. Bilger accounted for the lone run of the game while Abby Harvey also registered a base knock.
  • In the circle, Alyssa Wagner recorded four strikeouts in the contest while giving up just three hits. She only needed 98 pitches to post the three-hit shutout.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
 

 
  • IWU trailed 1-0 in the second inning, but Maddie Martin started things with a one-out single through the left side. Maddie Seitz entered as a pinch runner and scored on Wyatt's double to the gap in left center field. Wyatt went to third on a passed ball and scored on Makenna Waddell's sacrifice fly. Chloe Tragesser and Morgan Yeater notched back-to-back doubles, giving the home team a 3-1 edge.
  • The visitors struck for three runs in the fifth inning for a 4-3 lead.
  • USF managed to add two runs in the seventh with two away for the 6-3 final
  • For the game, Wyatt registered a team-best two hits. She had a double, drove in one and scored once. Yeater registered a double and drove in a run while Tragesser had a double and scored.
  • Makenna Waddell worked the first two innings. Alayna Thomas registered two strikeouts in two frames while Wagner threw three innings and had two strikeouts.
