BASEBALL BATTLES FOR DOUBLEHEADER SPLIT WITH SAU

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. - The Indiana Wesleyan baseball recorded a doubleheader split at Spring Arbor University Thursday afternoon in the first two games of the four-game series to conclude the regular season. The Wildcats lost the first game 3-0, but bounced back to snag a 10-2 victory in the nightcap.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
 

 
  • Spring Arbor broke through the scoreless contest in the fourth inning with a run. The home squad added another run in the sixth and seventh frames. 
  • IWU had a pair of runners on base in the second – after a walk to Connor Gibson and a single by Greg Vineyard, but a strikeout ended the threat. 
  • Still trailing 3-0 in the ninth, Vineyard started the inning with a walk, but the Wildcats were unable to push across any runs. 
  • For the game, Andrew Sinish, Vineyard and Quinn Willard recorded hits. Willard's base knock was a double. 
  • On the mound, Drue Young worked seven innings and registered eight strikeouts. He gave up three runs on nine hits while taking the loss. Cam LaFuze worked the eighth inning and had a strikeout.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
 


 
  •  IWU jumped on top of game two with a three-run first inning. MJ Stavola was hit by a pitch and moved to third after a base hit by Vineyard. With two outs, Nick Wiley blasted a three-run home run for the lead. Stavola doubled home Carson Gibson in the second for a 4-0 advantage. 
  • The Wildcats extended the margin to 7-0 with three runs in the sixth. Caleb Engelsman doubled to left field. After a walk to Wiley, Willard singled to load the bases. Moments later, Trevor Vojtkofsky was hit by a pitch, driving in a run. Mark Snowden entered as a pinch hitter and delivered a two-RBI single for the seven-run edge. 
  • IWU was not done with the scoring. With the bases loaded once again, Luke Roman ripped a single to left field, driving in two for the 9-0 margin. The final run for the visitors came in the seventh stanza when Zach Green ripped a pitch for a double, allowing Willard to score for the 10-0 lead. 
  • For the game, Wiley led the way with two hits, including a home run, three RBI and two runs scored. Roman drove in two while Gibson and Willard each crossed home plate twice.  
  • On the mound, Brock Buckley tossed six frames for the win. He had five strikeouts. Gibson Adema worked the seventh to wrap up the game.
