YOUNG'S SHUTOUT AND PUGH'S WALK-OFF GIVES BASEBALL DOUBLEHEADER SWEEP OVER MARIAN

MARION, Ind. – The No. 14 Indiana Wesleyan baseball team posted a pair of victories over Marian University Thursday by scores of 7-0 and 5-4.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
 

 
  • Darien Pugh got things going in the third with a single. He swiped second and third before scoring on a Andrew Sinish sacrifice fly.
  • Quinn Willard pushed the score to 2-0 with a two-out double that plated MJ Stavola in the fourth. 
    In the sixth, Stavola walked, stole second and scored on a single by Trevor Vojtkofsky. Moments later, Sinish drove in Vojtkofsky and Willard to make it 5-0. 
  • Stavola had an RBI double in the seventh that knocked in Jeff Pawlik. Luke Roman's base hit to center field drove in Pugh in the eighth for the final run in the game. 
  • Pugh and Roman led the way with three hits apiece while Sinish drove in three runs while registering a pair of hits. Willard also had two hits in the victory. Pugh and Stavola each scored twice. 
  • Drue Young worked a complete game, picking up the shutout. He had nine strikeouts and gave up just four hits and walked one in the dominant victory.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
 

 
  • The Wildcats jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. After Pugh walked, stole second and advanced to third on an error, Roman doubled him home. Roman swiftly stole second base before scoring on an error. 
  • Up 2-1 in the third, Willard started the inning off with a single to center field. After stealing second base and moving to third on a groundout, Nick Wiley knocked him in for a 3-1 edge.
  • Down 4-3 in the sixth, Wiley was the catalyst again, singling to start the inning. Colin Yoder came in as a pinch runner and moved to second with one down via a stolen base. A groundout by Stavola allowed him to race home, knotting the score. Carson Gibson walked in the seventh and went to second on a sacrifice bunt. He tallied the game-winning run when Pugh doubled him home for the 5-4 victory.
  • IWU was led by Wiley's two hits. He drove in a run in the win. Five different Wildcats crossed home plate. 
  • Brock Buckley worked five innings and had eight strikeouts. Caleb Olsen tossed the final two innings and had two strikeouts en route to earning the victory.
