MISHAWAKA, Ind. – The Indiana Wesleyan baseball team picked up a pair of victories at Bethel Saturday afternoon. Game scores were 10-4 and 7-5 in favor of the Wildcats.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS

 

 

• Greg Vineyard reached on a fielder's choice in the second and moved to second on a walk. A Trevor Vojtofsky single pushed Vineyard across for a 1-0 lead. 
• IWU made it 3-0 with two runs in the third frame. Luke Roman singled, stole second, went to third on the throw and later stole home. After Caleb Engelsman reached on an error, Vineyard doubled him home for the three-run edge. 
• Up 3-1 in the fourth, Vojtofsky doubled. Colin Yoder came in as a pinch runner and scored when Darien Pugh doubled to left field. 
• IWU increased the margin in the fifth. MJ Stavola walked and moved to third on a one-out double by Vineyard. Jay Tomes drove in Stavola with a single. Vojtofsky's base hit plated Vineyard. Pugh added to the lead with a single to center field, driving in Tomes. Yoder scored on a wild pitch for an 8-1 lead. Nick Wiley's solo blast in the sixth extended the margin to 9-1. Vojtofsky added a homer in the seventh to make it 10-2. The home team plated two runs in the seventh, but the Wildcats' defense was up for the challenge.    
• For the game, Vojtkofsky had a tremendous outing, going four-of-five at the plate with a home run and a double. He drove in three. Pugh, Roman and Vineyard had two hits apiece. Pugh drove in two while Vineyard and Yoder each crossed home twice. 
• On the mound, Grayson Knight worked six innings and had six strikeouts to get the win. Gabe Stout worked two-thirds of an inning with a strikeout while Caleb Olsen registered three strikeouts in 2.1 frames. 

 

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS

 

 

• IWU got on the board in the first with two runs. After a walk to Engelsman loaded the bases with Roman on second and Quinn Willard on third, Stavola singled home Willard. Wiley reached on an error, plating Roman for the two-run edge. 
• Up 2-1 in the fourth, Tomes walked with one away and moved to second on Vojtkofsky's single. With the bases loaded, Willard posted a hit, plating Tomes for a 3-1 advantage. 
• Bethel plated four runs in the fourth for a 5-3 margin, but IWU bounced back. In the sixth, Pugh was hit by a pitch with one down. With two away, Roman singled and Pugh went to third. A wild pitch made it 5-4. A single by Stavola knotted the contest at 5-5. 
• As neither team could push across a run in the seventh, the Wildcats went to work in the eighth. Pugh was hit by a pitch and moved to second on a wild pitch. Walks to Roman and Engelsman loaded the bases for Stavola, who pounced on a pitch for a single, driving in two. 
• For the game, Stavola led the offense with three hits and four RBI. Roman tallied two hits and three runs. Pugh scored twice and Engelsman walked three times. 
• On the mound, Tate Warner got the start and tossed 3.1 frames. He garnered three strikeouts. Brennan Morehead worked 1.2 innings and had two strikeouts. Will Eldridge came in and threw 3.0 frames and had five strikeouts.

• The Wildcats return to action Tuesday when they play a single game at Indiana Tech starting at 3 p.m.
