BASEBALL DROPS TWO GAMES AGAINST SAINT FRANCIS

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Wesleyan baseball team lost a pair of games at the University of Saint Francis Friday afternoon by scores of 13-9 and 6-5.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
 

 
  • Darien Pugh led off the game with an infield single and scored on Ty Mathews' double to center field. Down 7-1 in the third, MJ Stavola lifted a sacrifice fly, driving in Mathews. 
  • IWU pulled within one in the fourth. After Caleb Engelsman scored on an error, Trevor Vojtkofsky scored on a wild pitch before Carson Gibson crossed home on a sacrifice fly by Mathews. Luke Roman's double plated Pugh. 
  • Trailing 8-6, Gibson's sacrifice fly drove in Stavola in the fifth. Pugh and Nick Wiley each had solo home runs in the sixth for a 9-8 lead. 
  • USF scored five unanswered runs for a 13-9 advantage. 
  • Roman led the way with three hits. Mathews and Pugh notched two hits apiece. Pugh and Wiley smashed home runs while Pugh scored three times.
  • Drue Young worked five innings and had three strikeouts. Caleb Olesen and Gabe Stout had two strikeouts apiece.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
 

 
  • The Wildcats jumped on top in the first frame. Mathews singled to center field and came around to score on a double to right by Roman. Moments later, Wiley's fly ball allowed Roman to race home for a two-score advantage.  • Engelsman registered a one-out single in the second inning. He stole second and scored when Gibson reached on an error. 
  • USF made it 3-1 after the fifth inning but IWU added two in the sixth. After a Quinn Willard double to left field, Engelsman belted a two-run shot over the left field fence for a 5-1 margin. The home team managed to score five runs in the bottom of the inning for the 6-5 final.
  • Engelsman, Mathews and Roman had two hits apiece. Engelsman drove in two and scored twice.
  • Brock Buckley struck out four batters in 5.2 innings. Brennan Morehead worked the final third of an inning in the loss.
