NO. 2 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL BLOWS OUT NO. 10 RIO GRANDE BEHIND FRASURE'S 37

MARION, Ind. - No. 2 Indiana Wesleyan women's basketball earned a blowout win over No. 10 Rio Grande on Tuesday evening. Lilli Frasure powered the Wildcats with a career high with 37 points on 16-23 shooting. Grad Student Maddie Lawrence recorded her 1000th career point on a layup in the second quarter. The Wildcats 10-0 start is the best for the program since 2012-2013.

WHAT HAPPENED


 

  • Both teams started the first quarter looking to make a statement in the NAIA rankings, trading baskets to open the game. IWU made the first run, scoring 9 straight with 7 coming from Frasure. Indiana Wesleyan would lead 26-18 at the end of the first frame.
  • The Wildcat defense stepped up in the second quarter, holding the Redstorm to 11 points on 4-12 shooting, and forced 6 turnovers. Frasrure scored 6 points and recorded 2 assists in the quarter. IWU held an 18 point lead at half.
  • Taylor Folkema scored 13 points on 5-5 shooting and Frasure added 11 more to her total as Indiana Wesleyan extended their lead despite Rio Grande shooting 45% in the third quarter.
  • Despite 12 fouls being called on the Wildcats in the fourth quarter, the home team found a way to build on their lead and finished with a 101-77 victory. Frasure added 9 more points to secure her career high.

  • 62: IWU scroed 62 paint points, the Redstrom also found success in the paint with 48.
  • 17: For the first time this season the Wildcats were outscored on points off of turnovers, giving up 17 and only scoring 11.
  • 50: The biggest advantage for the red and gray came on rebounds, IWU grabbed 50 to URG's 26.
