NO. 2 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL SURVIVES BATTLE WITH HUNTINGTON

HUNTINGTON, Ind. - No. 2 Indiana Wesleyan women's basketball survived their first test of the season on Wednesday, taking down Huntington 81-79 in the Wildcats Crossroads League opener. Lilli Frasure led IWU with a 23 point, 14 rebound double-double.

WHAT HAPPENED


 

  • The Wildcats held a 21-20 lead at the end of the first quarter, but shot just 37% in the frame while the Foresters shot 66.7% from the field and 50% from three. Six turnovers from the home team kept IWU in the lead.
  • Indiana Wesleyan extended their lead by 3 in the second. The red and gray locked in defensively, holding HU to 5-13 from the field. Lilli Frasure went into half with 14 points and 8 rebounds.
  • Maddie Lawrence exploded in the third quarter with 11 points on 4-6 shooting, but 4 threes from Huntington prevented IWU from taking control. The Wildcats held a 6 point lead going into the final quarter.
  • The Wildcat offense struggled in the fourth, going 3-13. Huntington took a 1 point lead with just over 1 minute remaining in the game. Jade Nutley and Lilli Frasure hit 6 straight free throws to give Indiana Wesleyan a 3 point lead with 3 second left. A Wildcat foul on a three at the buzzer put HU at the line with a chance to tie, but the Foresters missed 2-3 allowing the Wildcats to escape with a win.

  • 44: IWU gained a big advantage inside with 44 paint points, compared to Huntingtons 18.
  • 16: The Wildcats scored 16 second chance points and only allowed HU to score 6.
