NO. 5 VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS TAYLOR ON SENIOR NIGHT

MARION, IND. - No. 5 Indiana Wesleyan volleyball swept Grant county rival Taylor on Saturday.The Wildcats earned their 27th win on the season on a day where seniors Julia Price, Elly Grenda, and Martina Demarchi were honored before the game.

MATCH VITALS


 

  • The teams traded points early in set one with the Wildcats finding the first run of the match on a 5-1 burst midway through the set to force a Trojan timeout. Taylor pulled within one point at 19-18 but IWU ended the set on a 6-2 run to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Trailing 7-6 Indiana Wesleyan went on a 9-1 run to go up 15-8 in the second set. The trams would trade points for the rest of the set as IWU took a 25-16 win.
  • The Wildcats took a 20-13 lead in the third set and looked poise to end the match with a dominant final set. However, TU responded with a 5-0 run to pull within 2. The hoe team finished the match with a 5-1 run and 2 kills from senior Julia Price to secure the sweep.
  • Eva Joldersma had a match high 16 kills. Marissa Mullins had 14 and Martina Demarchi added 13.
  •  Mullins led the way with 4 blocks.
  • Demarchi tallied 15 digs to lead IWU.
  • Porter recorded 43 assists.

  • "Tonight was very special as we got to honor our three seniors for their dedication, hard work and tremendous leadership.  I cannot thank them enough for the incredible blessing they have been to this team, coaches and this program.  It was an honor to celebrate them today and we wish them God's blessing as they make their mark on this world," said Head Coach Candace Moats. "For the volleyball match tonight, I loved the fight Taylor brought that caused us to stay focused, communicate and find grit!  This team has grit and a strong cohesiveness with each other.  It is a blessing to be their coach!  We look forward to preparing on Monday for our last regular season match."
