No. 9 WOMEN’S SOCCER WINS SIXTH IN A ROW AGAINST SAINT FRANCIS

MARION, Ind. - Another great win for No. 9 Indiana Wesleyan women's soccer, defeating Saint Francis at home 4-0. The Wildcats' defense was strong today, allowing only one shot for the Saint Francis attack. Two goals in each half put IWU on top and on a high-count win streak. With heads held high once again, the red and gray will travel to Winona Lake, Ind. to face Grace College on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.

WHAT HAPPENED


 

  • The 17th minute saw Sydney Brown score her fifth goal of the season with an assist from sophomore Madelynn Welker
  • Sophomore Abbey Drahnak found the back of the net for her fifth goal of the year off a great ball by junior Taylor Archbold in the 29th minute.
  • The half ended with the Wildcats up 2-0. 
  • IWU fired quickly entering the second half with a goal from Ashley Townsend assisted by senior Courtney Cockrum in the 49th minute. 
  • The final goal for the Wildcats and in the game was scored by junior Macy Browning in the 63rd minute, assisted by Sydney Brown.

NOTABLE NUMBERS

  • 24: Each half saw the Wildcat attack pushing well, with 13 total shots on target and 12 shots per half.
  • 1: The IWU defense held their own and kept Saint Francis to one shot on the day.

  • "Tonight was a good total team effort," said Daniel Seiffert, Head Women's Soccer Coach. "I thought our team came out really focused and ready to play today for 90 minutes. We are taking steps in the right direction and tonight was a good one to build off of. We look forward to getting back to the training grounds tomorrow."
