MARION, Ind. - Indiana Wesleyan softball discovered their journey to Columbus, Ga. for the NAIA World Series will go through Williamsburg, Ky. as the national office released the 2023 NAIA Softball National Championship Opening Round matchups and locations on Tuesday evening.
The Wildcats earned the No. 2-seed in the Williamsburg Bracket and their first matchup will be against No. 3-seed Madonna University (Mich.) on Monday, May 15th at 1:00 p.m. The regional will be played at the UC Softball Complex in Williamsburg, Kentucky hosted by the No. 1-seed University of the Cumberlands (Ky.). The last team heading to Kentucky is the No. 4-seed USC Beaufort (S.C.). Each of the 10 opening round locations features a four-team, double-elimination tournament. The 10 opening round champions will battle for the red banner at the 42nd Annual NAIA Softball World Series in Columbus, Ga., May 25 – 31.
IWU qualified with an at-large birth, making their eighth appearance in the NAIA Postseason. Cumberlands is coming off both a Mid-South Conference Regular Season and Tournament Title which earned them an automatic bid to the NAIA Tournament. Madonna won the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Tournament to earn an automatic bid. USCB also earned an automatic bid to the tournament after finishing second in the Continental Athletic Conference Tournament.
