NO. 2 VOLLEYBALL WINS 3-1 OVER NO. 20 BETHEL; EARNS NINTH TOP-25 VICTORY

MARION, IND. - No. 2 Indiana Wesleyan volleyball took down the visiting No. 20 Bethel Pilots 3-1 on Wednesday evening, recording their 9th ranked win of the season. IWU moves to 24-0 overall and 13-0 in the Crossroads League and is the only remaining unbeaten team in the NAIA Coaches' Top-25 Poll. Indiana Wesleyan holds a three game advantage over MVNU and Marian in the conference standings with five conference games left on the schedule.

  •  After a week of rest for IWU the Wildcats came out on fire, taking a 9-4 lead and forcing an early timeout from the Pilots. Indiana Wesleyan cruised to the finish, taking the first set 25-15.
  •  Bethel responded in set two, taking a 13-12 lead before a 3-0 Wildcat run forced a BU timeout. The Pilots didn't back down and used an 11-5 run to take set two 25-22.
  • A 5-0 run from IWU gave them a 5-2 lead early in the third set. The teams battled throughout the set with the Pilots narrowing the lead to just 1 at 22-21 but 3 straight points from the Wildcats gave them the 25-21 win.
  • The Pilots looked to stay in the match in set four taking a 13-10 lead midway through the set. An 8-1 IWU run gave the Wildcats a 4 point advantage. Bethel tied the set at 22 each but IWU pulled away with 3 straight to earn the win.
  • Martina Demarchi and Eva Joldersma led the way offensively with season highs of 20 kills each. This is the first 20 kill match for any Wildcat this season.
  • Marissa Mullins posted 6 blocks. Julia Price added 3.
  • Abbigail Porter recorded 55 assists.
  • Demarchi also led the team with 18 digs.
