TONAGEL ANNOUNCES 2022-23 RECRUITING CLASS

MARION, Ind. - Indiana Wesleyan Head Men's Basketball Coach Greg Tonagel has announced his 2022-23 class, with the additon of seven new faces. The class is highlighted by the programs seventh Indiana All-Star in Javan Buchanan and multiple All-State players.

“We are extremely excited to get to work with this talented class," said Tonagel. "They represent a variety of skills and athleticism that this team needs to compete for championships. But what will set them apart in their progression towards becoming great will be their buy in to the I AM THIRD life. Each of these guys has shown us a great desire to grow as a I AM THIRD man. I have no doubts they will do great things while here and beyond the court.”

Matthew Brown

  • HOMETOWN: Indianapolis, Ind.
  • HIGH SCHOOL: Indianapolis Northwest Home School 
  • POSITION: Forward
  • HEIGHT:  6'6
  • HIGH SCHOOL STATS: Brown poured in 1,859 points as a member of the Indianapolis Northwest Home School team. Averaging 17.5 points-per-game and 8.4 rebounds per game, Brown helped the Warriors to a 30-9 record his senior year. The 6'6 forward tallied 141 games in his High School career, shooting 53% from the field.

Caedmon  Bontrager

  • HOMETOWN: Spencerville, Indiana 
  • HIGH SCHOOL: Leo Jr/Sr H.S.
  • POSITION: Forward
  • HEIGHT: 6'7
  • HIGH SCHOOL STATS:  Hailing from Leo High School, Bontrager poured in over 1,500 points in his career and was named Indiana Large School All-State. As a senior, Bontrager poured in 20 points per-game while grabbing just shy 10 rebounds a game as a Lion. Bontrager and Associate Head Coach Jeff Clark both graduated from Leo High School. 

Javan Buchanan

  • HOMETOWN: Lafayette, Ind.
  • HIGH SCHOOL: Lafayette Jefferson H.S.
  • POSITION: Forward
  • HEIGHT:  6'6
  • HIGH SCHOOL STATS: Buchanan comes to IWU after a stellar senior campaign, earning Indiana All-Star honors for his success on the court. Buchanan averaged 20.5 points, 8.4 rebounds, 2.8 steals, 2.2 assists and 1.8 blocks per game for a Bronchos team that finished 21-5 in 2021-22. Buchanan tallied eight games with at least 25 and on two occasions poured in more than 30, including 31 during the IU Health Hoops Classic, a tournament he was named MVP in this past season. He finished the season shooting 51% from the floor and was named to the Indiana Large School All-State with fellow class member Caedmon Tait Bontrager

Luke Imfeld

  • HOMETOWN: Danville, Kentucky
  • HIGH SCHOOL: Boyle County H.S.
  • POSITION: Guard
  • HEIGHT: 6'1
  • HIGH SCHOOL STATS: Imfeld played for Boyle County H.S. earning First Team All-State and 12th Region Player of the Year honors in his final campiagn for the Rebels. Imfeld averaged double figues all four years, while averaging 22 points and shooting 46% from long range. 

Ajani Jamison  

  • HOMETOWN: Arlington, Texas
  • HIGH SCHOOL: Grace Prep
  • POSITION: Forward
  • HEIGHT:  6'6
  • HIGH SCHOOL STATS: Jamison made the 1,000 mile journey from Arlington, Texas playing forward for the Lions of Grace Prep. Jamison earned All-District First Team, District MVP, All State First Team, and All-State Tournament First Team in his senior campaign. The 6'6 forward was also named the #1 player in TAPPS 4A. Jamison netted 504 points in his senior season shooting 43% from deep, while grabbing 155 rebounds. He capped off his final season in the blue in white with a 4A State Championships. Jamison comes from a pedigree of college athletes with his grandpa playing basketball at Harvard, his other grandpa swimming at Oklahoma, his great Aunt Karen Booker and great Uncle Barry Booker hooped for the Commodores of Vanderbilt, while his dad Omari Booker played at Belmont. 

Bruce McGuire  

  • HOMETOWN: Bristol, Rhode Island
  • HIGH SCHOOL: Mt. Hope High School
  • POSITION: Guard
  • HEIGHT:  6'3
  • HIGH SCHOOL STATS: McGuire prepped for the Huskies of Mt. Hope High School averaging 20 points and 11 rebounds as a senior, while collecting three 30-point performances. Serving as the squad's captain, McGuire earned First Team All-Division, First Team All-Conference, and Third Team All-State.

Cyrus Myers

  • HOMETOWN: Marion, Ind.
  • HIGH SCHOOL: Kings Academy
  • POSITION: Guard
  • HEIGHT:  6'0
  • HIGH SCHOOL STATS: Myers will make the shortest drive to campus, hailing from Marion, Ind. Averaging 20.7 points per-game last season, Myers shot 42% from the field and 89% from the charity line.
