INDIANAPOLIS, IND. - No. 7 Indiana Wesleyan secured a spot in the 2022 Crossroads League Championship on Monday after defeating No. 14 Marian 6-5 in nine innings. This is the second game in the tournament that the Wildcats have recorded six runs. Wildcats have gone 4-1 against the Knights this season.

WHAT HAPPENED

 

• The Knights scored the first two runs before Wildcats responded with two in the fourth. A Kamryn Buck double scored Abby Harvey before Elisha Koshy singled up the middle to score Buck.
• With the game tied in the top of the fifth, Makenna Pace stole third base with Miranda Wehrle at bat. The Knights went to walk Wehrle but a wild pitch sent home Pace for the Wildcats to take the first lead of the game.
• A Marian single sent in two runs heading into the sixth inning. A Pace single scoring Langston tied the game in the top of the sixth inning.
• Top of the ninth, Becca Wyatt bunted with Reagen Radke on second base. On a throwing error, Radke scored. In the next at bat, a Langston grounded out sent home Wyatt. Wildcats went into the bottom of the inning with a 6-4 lead.
• Bottom of the ninth, Knights made things interesting loading the bases with no outs, Emma Etter-Cox subbed in on the mound and struck out a Knight in her first batter. A Knight fly out and line out ended the game as Wildcats claimed a 6-5 victory.

 

STAT SNAPSHOT

 

• Knights outhit the Wildcats 11-8. Abby Harvey and Makenna Pace each had two hits.
• Wildcats posted four RBIs. One a piece from Buck, Langston, Koshy, and Pace.
• IWU threw four different pitchers and collectively struck out five.

• Wildcats advance to the 2022 Crossroads League Tournament title game on Monday, May 9. The game is slated to start at 1pm against the winner of Taylor and Marian.
