IWU SWEEPS USF, MOREHEAD STRIKES OUT SEVEN OF THE LAST NINE

MARION, Ind. - Indiana Wesleyan baseball defeated the University of Saint Francis in both games of a doubleheader on Friday. The Wildcats trailed 1-0 early in game one before scoring 12 straight to win the game in seven innings 12-1. It was a similar story in game two as the Wildcats went into the third trailing 5-2 before scoring nine straight and winning 11-5.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
 
  • Evan Salmon continued his hot streak blasting two more home runs and bringing his total to 15 on the season. He is tied for fourth in the NAIA for the most home runs.
  • Bryce Ginder led the team with three hits, including a double and an RBI. 
  • Zach Rabe and Jeff Morton both ended with two hits. Rabe had a triple while Morton collected his second home run of the season. 
  • MJ Stavola, Denver Blinn, and Luke Roman also finished with two hits each, all of them had a double in the game. 
  • Ethan Dixon earned the win, he went two and one-thirds innings without giving up a run.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS


 

  • Andrew Pelkey and Brennan Morehead were electric in relief action. They combined for five innings of scoreless baseball and Morehead struck out seven of the last nine batters.
  • Denver Blinn kept things going with three hits, all three of which were doubles, and three runs scored. 
  • Bryce Ginder had two hits which marks the eighth time in the last 10 games that Ginder has finished with multiple hits. 
  • MJ Stavola and Jeff Morton both had doubles, Stavola finished with two runs, an RBI, and two stolen bases. 
  • Colby Jenkins sealed things late with a three-run home run which put the Wildcats up six.

CONTINUING THE SERIES


 
  • The Wildcats will look to keep thing rolling tomorrow as they finish up their four-game series with Saint Francis. Game one has been moved up to an 11:00 a.m. start time.
