WILDCATS SPLIT IN SEASON OPENER

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – No. 8 Indiana Wesleyan softball kicked off their 2022 season Monday, traveling to Fort Wayne, Indiana for a doubleheader with the Warriors of Indiana Tech University. Tech would best the rusty Wildcats in game one, 3-0 but an offensive outburst in game two would give IWU their first win of the season.

  • Kamryn Buck and Julianne Bell mustered the only two hits in the game for IWU. 
  • Indiana Tech stranded six runners on base in game one while IWU left two.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS



 

  • Miranda Wehrle would end the scoreless streak for IWU in the top of the first, driving in Jennah Yost off a double to centerfield.
  • Elisa Koshy would collect IWU's second double of inning down the left field line, driving in Kamryn Buck. IWU would lead 2-0 after one inning of play.
  • The Wildcats would put two more up in the second inning, with Zoe Fountain and Julianne Bell scoring on an Indiana Tech error. 
  • IWU would score three runs on two outs in the top of the third, pushing their lead to five runs over the Warriors.
  • Wehrle collected IWU's six double of the game in the sixth, the most in a game for IWU since they hit six against Goshen in April of 2018.

  • IWU heads to Columbus, Georgia for the NFCA NAIA Leadoff Classic on February 25-26.
  • Their first game comes against Bryan College (Tenn.) on Friday February 25.
