UPLAND, Ind. – The No. 7 Indiana Wesleyan softball team used a seventh-inning solo homer to propel the team into the Crossroads League Championship game Saturday with a 6-5 win over nationally-ranked Marian.

GAME VITALS
  • Indiana Wesleyan 6, Marian 5
  • RECORDS: IWU 43-6; MU 45-12

INSIDE THE BOX
  • The Knights led 1-0 after plating a run in their first at bat, but IWU responded with a three-run third inning.
  • With one down, Julianne Bell doubled to the gap in right center field. Two batters later, Chloe Tragresser singled to third, putting runners on the corners. Miranda Wehrle gave the designated visitors a 3-1 lead when she launched her 17th round-tripper of the season over the center field fence.
  • Trinity Medina singled home Tragresser in the fifth, pushing the advantage to 4-1. Rebecca Schrad was hit by a pitch. Kamryn Buck's base knock scored Medina for a four-run margin at 5-1.
  • MU smacked a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth, bringing the score to 5-3. Two more runs crossed home plate in the sixth to knot things up.
  • Two pitches into the seventh inning, Wehrle belted a 1-0 offering via a line drive over the left field wall for a 6-5 advantage.
  • The Knights had a runner on second base with two outs in the seventh, but Danielle Munn forced a line-drive to center field for the final out.
  • For the game, Julianne Bell, Tragresser and Wehrle had two hits apiece, accounting for six of the team's 10 base knocks.
  • Wehrle drove in four runs while she and Tragresser each crossed home plate twice.
  • Alyssa Wagner worked five innings, giving up three runs but did not get a decision. Munn worked two frames and got the win.
