BASEBALL FALLS TO OKWU, FALLS TO LOSER BRACKET IN NAIA OPENING ROUND

MARION, Ind. – The second-seeded Indiana Wesleyan baseball team lost a 14-6 decision to top-seeded Oklahoma Wesleyan in the opening round of the NAIA National Tournament.

INSIDE THE BOX
  • The top-seeded Eagles jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning, but the Wildcats would trim the deficit to two after plating three in the bottom of the stanza.
  • Lucas Goodin blooped a pitch into center field with runners on every bag, allowing Tye Thixton and Colby Jenkins to score. Tanner Killian scored moments later to make it a 5-3 contest.
  • Down 6-3 in the third, Killian led off the inning with a double and moved to third on a Goodin fly ball. A groundout by MJ Stavola pushed the score to 6-4.
  • Trailing 8-4 in the fifth, Killian recorded a lead-off single. Goodin crushed a two-run homer over the right field wall, pulling the Wildcats within two at 8-6.
  • Oklahoma Wesleyan pushed across two runs in the sixth, three in the eighth and one in the ninth for an eight-run advantage.
  • For the game, Killian led the way with three hits, including a double. Denver Blinn, Nick Coy, Goodin, Colby Jenkins and Luke Roman had two hits each. Goodin drove in four of the team's six runs while Killian crossed home three times. 
  • Parker Johnson, Hunter Hoffman and Isaiah Rivera all saw time on the mound. Rivera struck out four batters in the contest. 


NEXT TIME OUT
  • The Wildcats take the field again at noon tomorrow against either No. 3 Columbia College or No. 5 Indiana Tech.
