SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH MVNU

MARION, Ind. – The No. 11 Indiana Wesleyan softball team split a pair of games against Mount Vernon Nazarene, winning 14-1 before falling 3-1.


GAME VITALS
  • GAME 1: IWU 14, MVNU 1
  • GAME 2: MVNU 3, IWU 1
  • RECORDS: IWU 24-4; MVNU 11-5


INSIDE THE BOX – GAME 1
  • IWU struck for six runs in the third and eight runs in the fourth, taking a 14-0 lead. MVNU plated a run in the fifth, but it was not enough to prolong the game, invoking the mercy rule after the inning.
  • The Wildcats pounded out 14 runs on 15 hits.
  • Jennah Yost, Chloe Tragresser, Rebecca Schrad, Kamryn Buck and Aubrie Eckert pounded out two hits apiece.
  • Buck drove in a game-high four runs while Eckert drove in three. Addie Benham, Miranda Wehrle and Hannah Miller each had two RBI.
  • Schrad, Buck and Julianne Bell crossed home plate twice apiece.
  • Alyssa Wagner threw the complete-game, three hitter. She did not give up an earned run and allowed just three hits. Wagner struck out four batters.


LIKING THE LONG BALL
  • Buck, Eckert and Wehrle all connected four homeruns in the opener. It marked Buck's and Eckert's second homers of the season, respectively. Wehrle connected on her 12th round-tripper of the year.


INSIDE THE BOX – GAME 2
  • In the nightcap, MVNU jumped out to a 2-0 lead after scoring a run in the first and third innings.
  • IWU plated a run in the fifth, but the visitors managed to tack on an insurance run in the sixth for the 3-1 win.
  • The Wildcats were limited to one run on four hits.
  • Yost registered two hits in the game while Wehrle and Becca Wyatt had a hit apiece. The lone run of the game for the home squad came off the bat of Wehrle, who smacked her 13thround-tripper of the season.
  • Danielle Munn worked four innings, giving up two runs while Mckenzey Ridge threw two frames and gave up one run.


NEXT TIME OUT
  • The Wildcats take the field again Tuesday, Apr. 6 when they host Saint Francis at 4 p.m.
