BASEBALL TAKES TWO FROM GRACE, EXTENDS WIN STREAK TO EIGHT GAMES

MARION, Ind. – The No. 19 Indiana Wesleyan baseball team picked up a doubleheader sweep over Grace College Friday afternoon, winning 14-3 and 12-5.

INSIDE THE BOX – Game 1
  • Trailing 1-0 in the third inning, Nick Coy and Blake Storr singled to get things going. An error allowed Coy to score. Luke Roman laid down a bunt, plating Storr. Denver Blinn doubled home Roman before a groundout scored Tye Thixton. Three batters later, MJ Stavola's double scored Blinn for a 5-1 advantage.
  • Up 5-2 in the fourth, Storr and Roman posted back-to-back doubles. Moments later, Colby Jenkins doubled home Thixton. Tanner Killian's sacrifice fly allowed Blinn to cross home plate.
  • IWU extended the lead to 14-2 with a six-run fifth inning. After Stavola walked and stole second, he went to third on Coy's base knock. He scored on Storr's base hit. Coy and Storr came home on a Thixton three-run round-tripper. Moments later, Killian blasted a two-run homer, scoring Jenkins.
  • The Lancers added a run in the seventh for a 14-3 victory.
  • For the game, Storr led the way with a four-for-four performance. Coy notched three hits while Roman and Blinn had two hits apiece. Tanner and Thixton drove in three runs apiece while Roman knocked in two. Storr and Thixton each scored three times while Blinn and Coy crossed home twice.
  • Seven of the team's hits went for extra bases.


INSIDE THE BOX – Game 2
  • IWU jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second game. With two down, Jenkins got things going with a single. Killian doubled him home and Lucas Goodin was hit by a pitch. Stavola's single plated Killian. With two on, Coy's base knock scored Goodin and Stavola.
  • In the third, the Wildcats scored six times to break open the contest. Jenkins singled in Zach Rabe, who recorded an infield single. With two on, Killian launched a three-run homer, scoring Blinn and Jenkins. Goodin reached on a walk and raced home on a triple from Stavola. After a pop-up by Coy, Stavola scored to make it 10-0.
  • IWU tacked on a run in the third and a run in the fifth for a 12-1 advantage. The visitors scored a run in the fourth, sixth and three in the seventh for the 12-5 final.
  • At the plate, Killian went four-for-four with four RBI and scored twice. Jenkins and Stavola had two hits apiece and each drove in two runs. Coy drove in two as well. Killian, Stavola and Thixton had extra-base hits.
  • On the mound, Isaiah Rivera struck out four and worked six innings. He gave up two runs on five hits. Gabe Fleace worked a frame to close things out.


NEXT TIME OUT
  • The Wildcats take the field again tomorrow when they host Grace College in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
