MARION, Ind. - Indiana Wesleyan women's soccer failed to advance to the NAIA Final Site Saturday, falling 2-0 in the NAIA Opening Round Championship match to Central Methodist.
"I just wanted to begin by saying that this journey started all the way back in August," said Head Coach Daniel Seiffert. "It has been an extremely long year with many highs and lows along the way and the players have sacrificed so much for this season. But one thing is for certain is that God has used this year to teach our entire team and coaching staff a ton! It is one that we will learn from and grow from and I just wanted to say that I am so proud of these young women that we had the opportunity to coach and their love that they constantly displayed for others."
The high-powered and aggressive Eagles team scored just six minutes into the contest, while icing the cake just 17-minutes later with their second goal. CMU landed ten total shots on frame, with IWU goalkeeper Hope Stacker making eight saves. Courtney Cockrum led all Wildcats with three shots, landing one on frame.
"On top of that, it has been an absolute blessing being able to coach Olivia Schmidt and the rest of the seniors," said Seiffert. "She dedicated so much to this program and gave so much to this team and I know that her legacy will definitely live on! I honestly just hope and pray that every coach has the same blessing I had of being able to coach someone special like her! Our seniors epitomized what it means to love Christ, love like Christ, and compete for Christ!
The Wildcats end their season with a record of 10-3-3.
Finally we are excited to bring a lot of this experience back for next season, and we can continue to move forward toward our program's goals and competing on the national stage," said Seiffert! "Ultimately, our desire is to use whatever platform God has given us to share love to others through our team."
