SOFTBALL TAKES ONE GAME LEAD IN LEAGUE STANDINGS WITH SWEEP OF NO. 7 MARIAN

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MARION, Ind. – The No. 10 Indiana Wesleyan softball team swept No. 7 Marian University Saturday afternoon by scores of 3-0 and 5-0 behind an all-around team effort and spectacular pitching.

INSIDE THE BOX – Game 1

IWU jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Hannah Miller led off with a single and Caroline Jones came in as a pinch runner. She promptly went to second on Rebecca Schrad's sacrifice bunt. Kamryn Buck doubled her home for a 1-0 advantage. Two batters later, Becca Wyatt doubled Buck home for the two-run margin.
The score remained the same until the bottom of the sixth. Miller led off the frame with a base knock to shallow right field. Zoe Fountain came in as a pinch runner and stole second base. Schrad laid down an outstanding sacrifice bunt, pushing Fountain to third. Buck singled her home for the 3-0 score.
It was more than enough for the Wildcats with Alyssa Wagner dominating in the circle. She struck out eight, gave up just one walk and a hit in the shutout victory.
For the game, Buck and Miller had two hits apiece while Buck drove in a pair of runs. Jennah Yost, Chloe Tragresser, Schrad and Wyatt also had hits in the game.
Buck and Wyatt each had doubles, accounting for the lone extra-base hits in the victory.

INSIDE THE BOX – Game 2

The contest was scoreless through the first two frames, but the Wildcats broke through with three runs in the third. IWU plated a run in the fifth and sixth for the 5-0 tally.
In the third, Wyatt reached on a bunt and swiped second base. She scored on a bases loaded walk to Miller. Schrad singled home Julianne Bell and Yost for a 3-0 advantage.
Yost led off the fifth with a base hit. After stealing second, Tragresser pushed her to third on the bunt. Miranda Wehrle lifted a sacrifice fly to left, plating Yost.
In the sixth, Wyatt singled home Fountain, who came in for Buck as a pinch hitter.
For the game, Danielle Munn was spectacular. She did not allow a run and gave up just one walk and two hits while throwing the complete-game shutout.
At the plate, Julianne Bell and Wyatt had two hits apiece. Schrad drove in two of the team's runs while Yost scored twice.
The sweep by the Wildcats evened the season series at 2-2. IWU fell by scores of 6-3 and 5-2 to Marian on March 24.

NEXT TIME OUT

The Wildcats take the field again Tuesday, Apr. 20, when they travel to Spring Arbor for a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
