SOFTBALL OVERWHELMS GOSHEN, STAYS PERFECT IN LEAGUE PLAY

GOSHEN, Ind. – The No. 12 Indiana Wesleyan softball team notched a pair of victories Friday afternoon over Goshen College.


GAME VITALS
  • GAME 1: IWU 13, Goshen 6
  • GAME 2: Wildcats 9, Maple Leafs 1 (5 innings)
  • RECORDS: IWU 13-1; Goshen 10-8


INSIDE THE BOX – Game 1
  • Indiana Wesleyan jumped on top with two runs in the second inning. After swiping third, Caroline Jones managed to trot home on an error. Kamryn Buck's sacrifice fly scored Rebecca Schrad for the 2-0 edge.
  • Down 3-2 in the third, Chloe Tragresser singled and scored on a Hannah Miller base hit. Miller's single also scored Miranda Wehrle, who had singled earlier in the frame. Schrad's sacrifice fly allowed Elisa Koshy to cross home plate. A dropped fly ball gave Miller the chance to score for a 6-3 lead.
  • The Wildcats extended the margin to 10-3 with a four-run fourth inning. After loading the bases, Koshy walked to score Jennah Yost. Miller singled in Tragresser. With one down, Laney Shaw's single scored Wehrle. Kamryn Buck's fielder's choice allowed Koshy to cross home for the seven-run lead.
  • Goshen cut the margin by plating three runs combined in the fifth and sixth innings. IWU put the game away with three runs in the seventh.
  • Tragresser was outstanding, going four-for-five in the game. Miller notched three hits and drove three runs in. Koshy also drove in three. Yost and Wehrle accounted for two hits apiece.
  • Danielle Munn worked four innings to pick up the win while Mckenzey Ridge tossed the final three innings for the save.


SWIPING BASES
  • Indiana Wesleyan notched eight steals in the contest, seemingly running at will. Schrad accounted for a pair of thefts.


POUNDING OUT HITS
  • IWU drove in 10 runs and scored 13 times in the first game win. The Wildcats pounded out 17 hits. Fifteen of the base knocks were singles while the squad notched two doubles.


INSIDE THE BOX – Game 2
  • IWU took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first. Yost singled and moved to third on an error as Tragresser reached. Wehrle hit a sacrifice fly, plating Yost. Koshy then smacked a two-run homer to right center field.
  • Miller extended the advantage to 6-0 with a three-run homer down the left field line in the third inning. She drove in Wehrle and Koshy, who reached on a single and walk, respectively.
  • A three-run fourth pushed the lead to 9-0. Julianne Bell singled in Zoe Fountain. Wehrle's base hit scored Bell prior to Miller's sacrifice fly scoring Tragresser.
  • Miller recorded four RBI while Koshy and Wehrle had two RBI apiece. Tragresser and Koshy each scored twice.
  • Alyssa Wagner tossed a gem, giving up just one hit in four innings of work. She struck out six batters. Addie Benham threw the final inning, posting a strikeout.


MILLER TIME
  • Hannah Miller drove in a game-high four RBI in the nightcap. She garnered one hit and scored once.


NEXT TIME OUT
  • The Wildcats take the field again tomorrow when they play at Bethel. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
