Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

NO. 20 @IWU_WBB CLAIMS TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONSHIP, SNAPS NO. 5 MARIAN'S 20 GAME WIN STREAK

INDIANAPOLIS – For the first time in six years, No. 20 Indiana Wesleyan women's basketball is your Crossroads League Tournament Champions. The Wildcats overcame a 12-point deficit in the first quarter to win the next three quarters topping No. 5 Marian University, 77-67. The win snapped the Knights 20-game win streak.

QUICK STATS

INSIDE THE BOX
  • Turnovers were the difference, as IWU coughed it up five times leading to ten of MU's 22 points after one quarter.
  • Both squads were dead cold from deep, combining to shoot 5-of-17 for 29% in the first half.
  • The Wildcats trailed by as much as 13 points but a 17-2 run to end the second quarter gave IWU a two-point lead at the half. Madison Davis knocked down two triples during the run and a rare four-point play by Dayton Groninger cut the Knights lead to one.
  • Seven different Wildcats scored in the first half, led by Jordan Reid with seven. Dayton GroningerMadison Davis, and Gabby Suarez each added six.
  • IWU took a nine-point lead with two minutes to go in the third quarter, their largest lead of the game at that point. It was built on the back of an 11-3 run. The quarter ended with a Baylie Vandyke heave from the volleyball line, giving IWU a nine-point lead heading into the final ten minutes of play.
  • IWU would fight for a loose ball with 2:33 left using their extra possession provided by the possession arrow for a Kelli Dammon three pushing their lead to seven with 2:05 in the contest.
  • A missed bucket by Marian and two made free throws by Dayton Groninger gave IWU a nine-point lead with 90-seconds left.
