THIXTON GOES HARD TWICE, @IWU_BASEBALL FALLS TO NO. 1 SOUTHEASTERN

LAKELAND, Fla. – Tye Thixton posted a pair of homeruns in the doubleheader against No. 1 Southeastern, but Indiana Wesleyan dropped both contests by scores of 13-3 and 9-2.


INSIDE THE BOX – Game 1
  • No. 1 Southeastern scored two runs in the first and two in the fifth for a 4-0 lead.
  • Chris Lopez smashed a solo homer with one out in the sixth to make it 4-1.
  • The Fire rattled off six runs in the bottom of the sixth to push the margin to 10-1.
  • A Tye Thixton two-run homer in the seventh pulled the Wildcats to within seven at 10-3. The round-tripper plated MJ Stavola, who was hit by a pitch.
  • Chris Lopez and Tye Thixton had two hits apiece – and each had a home run. 
  • Hunter Hoffman got the start, worked 3.2 innings and struck out two batters. 

     
INSIDE THE BOX – Game 2
  • Tye Thixton led off game two with a solo homer, marking the 12th of his career. 
  • Down 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth, Chris Lopez belted a double to right field, scoring Lucas Goodwin to make it 3-2.
  • A six-run fourth by SU pushed the score to 9-2.
  • MJ Stavola posted two hits, including a double.
  • IWU had three extra-base hits in the contest.
  • Brennan Morehead came in and registered four strikeouts.


GAME VITALS
  • GAME 1: No. 1 Southeastern defeated Indiana Wesleyan 13-3.
  • GAME 2: No. 1 Southeastern defeated Indiana Wesleyan 9-2.
  • RECORDS: IWU 0-4; SEU 7-0 
 

BENJAMIN PERSPECTIVE

  • It was a good opportunity to have the first two days on the field in the situations we were in. Our young guys got to see all the variables that go into not only getting to a World Series, but winning a national championship. Strong growth opportunity that our team will grow quickly from.


NEXT TIME OUT
  • The Wildcats take the field again Thursday, Feb. 11 against Missouri Baptist in Lawrenceville, Ga. IWU will play a single game against Missouri Baptist at 1 p.m.
