MEN'S BASKETBALL TOPS BRIAR CLIFF BY 25

MARION, Ind. - No. 9 Indiana Wesleyan men's basketball used a second-half scoring surge Friday night, topping the Charger of Briar Cliff 83-58 in game one of the Caleb Dimmichi Memorial Classic. The Wildcats shot a whopping 53% from the field in half number two compared to 37% in the first 20 minutes of play.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

  • It was back-and-forth during the first ten minutes of play, with 11 lead changes taking place. Briar Cliff picked up steam, going on a quick 10-2 run, forcing an IWU timeout at the 7:59 mark in the first half. Their run built a nine-point Chargers lead. 
  • IWU would respond with a 22-9 run to end the half, trailing by just six at the half. 
  • 31 points is the fewest points scored in half by an IWU squad this season. 
  • IWU started the second half on a 15-10 run bringing the game within one at the first media timeout. BCU's first six points came from the free-throw line, while Michael Thompson III sparked IWU, netting six of the 15 points.
  • Spencer Piercefield gave IWU their first lead since the 19:44 mark in the first half, knocking down the Wildcats fifth three of the game. Dan Largey would grow the Wildcats lead with a corner three at the 12-minute mark, pushing it to seven. 
  • IWU continued to surge offensively in the second half, with Griffin Kliewer giving IWU a 20-point lead with 5:29 left in the contest.

INSIDE THE BOX

  • BCU's Kyle Boerhave led all scorers with nine points at the half, shooting a perfect 4-for-4 from the field. Seth Maxwell was second best, adding eight on 3-of-4 shooting.
  • IWU was a perfect 15-for-15 from the charity stripe through eight minutes of play. Dan Largey broke the streak at the 7:21 mark in the first half. IWU shot a season-high 28 freebies, making 25, also good for a season high. 
  • Indiana Wesleyan coughed it up just ten times for a season low.

  • IWU hosts Lincoln College at 1 p.m. tomorrow.
